Nigerian Road Safety Partnership
The NRSP, an affiliate of the Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP), is a tri-sector outfit put in place to improve the existing road and driving conditions prevalent in Nigeria. This collaborative effort is aimed at achieving the goals of UN Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030 (to prevent at least 50% of road traffic deaths and injuries by 2030), ultimately make Nigeria road one of the twenty safest in the world by 2030 in line with WHO ranking and the Nigeria Road Safety Strategy.
The establishment of the NRSP is also a response to UN resolution A/RES/64/255 “Improving Global Road Safety” on 2nd March, 2010. The resolution was co-sponsored by the government of Nigeria and provides that the solution to Road Traffic crash (RTC) can better be achieved through collaborative efforts involving public, private sectors, non-governmental organization, civil society and the media.
The global perspective of road safety management and the World Health Organization ranking of Nigeria as 176 out of 181 countries indicates that Africa and indeed Nigeria require systemic, collaborative, deliberate and all inclusive crash management process as a way forward to addressing road safety concerns.
The establishment of Nigerian Road Safety Partnership (NRSP) is a response to global call for all inclusive participation in road safety agenda through provision of resources, expertise and cooperation for the implementation of data-led interventions to achieve reduction in road crashes, serious injuries and fatalities in Nigeria.
